There's a lot of considerations to be made, such as the quality and cost of materials available, shipping costs, wage levels (it can be profitable to manufacture some things in a low wage city to sell in other cities), how much technology (R&D) affects the quality of a product versus how much the raw material quality matters, how much consumers in each city care about price, brand, and quality (for example, high income cities care less about price, more about brand, and people care a lot about the brand of cigarettes and aren't concerned with quality, while they don't care about the brand of pork or chicken eggs).Capitalism 2 lets you build the empire of your dreams! The basic gameplay involves using your capital (money) to compete for profits (or for specific victory conditions) across multiple cities against other corporations, utilizing concepts like retailing, farming, manufacturing, branding and advertising, research and development, raw material production and the stock market. Also, there's only a handful of people offering constructive suggestions (like about 3 people.), so the game could use more comprehensive ideas for fun gameplay additions.Ī bit about the game: You can see the new features contained in Capitalism Lab in the link provided. However, it has a very small following and apparently no marketing (I found it by luck myself), and that may affect how much development they can afford to do. The developers are awesome, since I've seen them implement suggestions (including my own) and release a patch with the changes in 24 hours. It's a stand-alone expansion (you don't need the previous versions) and it is intended to be continuously developed and updated for free. I recently went to find the game online to reinstall again and found that they have picked the game up again, just releasing Capitalism Labs in December 2012. It has more depth and features than say Roller Coaster Tycoon. It's a fun business sim game (so should appeal to fans of sim city and other tycoon games), and it's also been used for educational purposes by some teachers and education institutions. I used to play Capitalism (1995) Capitalism 2 (2001) and Capitalism Plus (2005) back when they were new and I've reinstalled occasionally over the years.
